1 Million Exercise Book Donation Challenge

Project Description

Sri Lanka is facing one of its worst economic crises and education is on the brink of collapse. Given printing industry is facing difficulties to continue operations due to the shortage of raw materials and prices of books having sky-rocketed has emerged to be a massive setback in their learning. Simply put, fewer school supplies mean fewer students learning. When it comes to adequately educate young children, learning materials are an absolute necessity, especially when teaching them foundational skills like reading and basic arithmetic. Parents may be discouraged and find it intensely tough to manage in sending their children to school if they cannot provide enough learning materials to their children. Some parents observe poor learning conditions in schools and believe that their children would benefit more from working at home. When parents want to send their children to school but cannot afford the necessary school supplies, their child is turned away for being “unprepared.” is it possible to imagine how many such children will be affected in the current economic crisis in Sri Lanka and what the future will be of all generations to come?

Adequate school materials have been shown to be more cost-effective than reducing individual class sizes in improving the quality of a classroom curriculum. School supplies help students engage more effectively with their assignments, allowing hands-on skills to provide a better learning experience. Students who have access to supplies feel more prepared, which provides children with focus and enthusiasm for learning. Proper writing and drawing materials are also essential when it comes to learning about specific topics. Typical classroom subjects such as math, reading, and writing can be taught largely with more basic materials. But Blue Wings observes that currently in Sri Lanka, children are suffering at the hands of poverty and lack of stationary due to the ongoing economic crisis in the country. This is the juncture where the Blue Wings opens its wings of generosity to lead a helping hand to the budding future leaders of Sri Lanka.

Needs Assessment for the urgent needs of writing books in Sri Lanka is heavily dependent on price reversal. So far, it has been impossible to meet the needs or even partial needs for stationery have not been met. In the best-case scenario, NGO s, charity organizations and philanthropists also\o find it tough to meet any such need for school students as the fuel crisis has deprived them of travel transportation. In Sri Lanka, the reason for the prevailing education crisis is the economic crisis since covid19, which has also affected to the closure of schools in the country. Currently, there is an urgent need to provide stationary supplies to enable students to at least resume school education

Poverty and education are two of the most important factors that determine a child’s future. In Sri Lanka, parents remain stressed and struggle to keep kids in school, let alone focused on learning. Many children miss classes due to the lack of notebooks. This also has led children to an inferiority complex they are never able to come out of. These basic supplies allow the teachers to keep their classrooms functioning on a day-to-day basis.

Every child’s dream is an education that gives them skills and confidence. Education is a fundamental human right: every child is entitled to it. It is critical to our development as individuals and as societies and it helps pave the way to a successful and productive future.

When we ensure that children have access to a rights-based, quality education that is rooted in access to their school needs, we create a ripple effect of opportunity that impacts generations to come. Serving notebooks can create cater to an educated generation where it produces a crime-free generation, a happy healthy society, and a disciplined group of citizens where many of whom will be graduates. Therefore, Notebook funds project that matter to local students, expanding opportunities for entire generations.

As adults are more employed, to work in the formal sector, work in the non-agricultural sector, and migrate. These generations have higher living standards, better housing, more assets, and pay more government taxes. While nutrition and health investments also increase.
